I joined the financial planning team in the investment division of a London firm of Chartered Accountants in 1988 working out of their Canterbury office, and in 1995 moved to Somerset to be closer to family. Twenty-five years later, the financial planning world has changed a great deal, but my commitment to independent and impartial advice remains.
I have been married to Julie since 1989 and we have four children – Tom, Hannah, Robert and Gregory. I have a very loyal and longstanding following of clients, some for over 20 years. My areas of specialism include:
- Later life and older clients
- Inheritance tax mitigation
- On-going management and balance of capital and income
- Retirement planning
- Clergy in the Church of England
- Speaking at seminars designed for the Clergy
Knowing your client, and genuinely caring is vital. The relationships with clients and the enormously privileged and important role that they allow me to play in their life, is hugely satisfying. Looking at the whole picture, working alongside client’s other professional advisers and taking care in planning makes a huge difference to client’s current and future lifestyles.
I was originally set for a career as a musician, with a background as a Peterborough Cathedral Chorister and organist, and Chapel Royal Gentleman. I had a glorious time teaching Maths and Music for five years before entering the world of Financial Services in 1983. I have been a Trustee of the Bishop’s Palace, Wells, and have served as a Trustee at Peterborough and Wells cathedrals.
